Training in NZ

I had my first proper Crossfit box experience whilst in New Zealand at CrossFit Tauranga. It was awesome! Huge thanks to Luke McGruer and his team for welcoming me in to the box and letting me train there. And to the awesome people I met there. I'll admit I was nervous about doing this but everyone made me feel so welcome and at ease, that I soon got over my apprehension and settled in to the group sessions. Even when the WOD was tricky I got loads of support and help. I'm actually really missing you all at CrossFit Tauranga - and the weather there! #thanksagain

The WODs included:

5k row
7min EMOM - max skips/9 burpees
Floor press
5RFT 30 KB swings/15 pull ups/300m row
Deadlifts
Snatches

When I couldn't get to the box I had Jack provide me with a WOD I could complete wherever I was, whether that be at Steve & Tracey's place in Ohauiti, the apartment at Hampton Downs, or I'd take myself up to the top of Mt Manganui (loved watching the paragliders up there).

I got to practice my air squats in some pretty amazing surroundings...

I also did tubing down the Waitomo caves and climed the Wairere Falls.

And the main reason for my trip to NZ - to do some racing. I had two short circuit meetings and one street race which consisted of 1 x newcomers session, 3 x practice sessions, 3 x qualifying sessions and 5 races. Thing is, the street race lap took under a minute and despite me doing over 100 laps it would still only equate to just over 2 laps of the Isle of Man TT. But it was great to be getting all that bike time under my belt when usually I'd be confined by the weather to just gym based training in the UK!

I also got to do some road riding both on the South Island and the North. I got some sweet rides too - an MV and one of my all time fave bikes - a Ducati Diavel!

Yes I was sad to leave NZ.

But I got sooooo much to organise I'm actually really happy to be home and getting all my CrossFit and racing fucks in a row.
