CrossFit has brought out that competitive streak in me and I like it.
It hurts. It's not easy and it's going to get tougher but I think that's what's got me hooked. Racing motorbikes isn't for everyone and competing at CrossFit isn't either. Yep, I mentioned competing. Jack and I briefly spoke about me doing the open CrossFit competition Jan/Feb time 2015. It's a way off yet and I've loads to learn but I'm already a tiny bit excited. It would be a great way to kick off my 2015 season.
Back to today's session.
It started with 5RM Deadlift. I'll have to up-date the numbers as Jack took note of everything today. [It's been ace training with him all week - I get to benefit from having some top class coaching as well as all that added motivation and support]. I do know I did way better than my 1 rep max that I did two weeks ago.
5 sets of 10 hang cleans and 10 push press. These are all about technique. I improved throughout the sets but there's room for improvement. [2 min rest in between sets].
AMRAP
4 mins of assisted pull ups [37].
1 min rest.
4 min 5 air squats holding 10kg plate, 5 sit ups holding 10kg plate & 5 HR push ups. [4 sets completed].
Followed by loads of stretching and my Bespoke Injury homework exercises.
I enjoyed this session more than I'd anticipated. The soreness from Wednesday's session vanished as I warmed up [Oh I've a mega new warm up that Jack's put together - I hope to get the women on the FIM training camp to try it out too, next week]. The Deadlifts were challenging but Jack's coaching helped me find new strength. It was satisfying to set a new PB.
Getting through the hand cleans and push presses were hard because of how technical they are. I improved but I'm way of from being as efficient as Fleckney - but again, that just motivates me.
The AMRAP conditioning was the part I was apprehensive about. Mainly due to that evil EMOM I did earlier in the week which emptied me. Anyway, I loved it. Pull ups, sit ups and press ups. It felt good to add weight to all of these exercises and still maintain form. Injuries - what injuries.
Big up to Jack for training with me this week.
I'm away coaching at the FIM Women's Road Racing Training Camp next week and I'm not sure my hotel has a gym. It's not going to be the same without the olympic bar and weights but I'm sure Jack will come up with something to keep me more than ticking along.
Oh and to get him back for taking that photo of me rowing. I took a video of him in the middle of one of his training sessions today...
Until next week!
