I did my final tests with Jack the morning before I flew to NZ.
They included 1RM Deadlift (70kg).
Kipping practice.
Heavy Russian KB swings.
And a 2K row for time.
Getting the row done was the hardest. I needed Jack's encouragement. His words pushing me towards achieving a PB.
It emptied me. But the endorphin kick made it worth it.
I think I'm not only getting stronger physically but mentally too.
Still a way to go but it feels good.
So, now I'm in New Zealand. The race organisers have sorted out gym membership for me at Northern Arena, in Silverdale. The staff are uber friendly and the facilities are spot on.
Yesterday, Monday, was my first session since the flight (I landed here on Saturday am).
Jack wants to see me hit full depth in my squats every time. So I did have to compromise on the weight a little. Plus jet lag was still lingering (despite a strong dose of coffee).
The WOD:
6RM Front squat. (35kg)
3 x sets of 20 x Russian KB swings (20kg) + 10 x single leg deadlifts (12kg).
3 rounds for time:
500m row + 10 burpees over the rower (and the rower here is twice as high as the one in Trilogy Duston).
I felt it. In fact I'm still feeling it now (Tues). So I'm actually looking forward to foam rolling and getting warmed up.
Time to get strong!
